The holidays can trigger old wounding by comparing our insides to people’s outsides. How can we come back to the now, get out of our heads and celebrate the beauty of being alive? I love the Serenity Prayer because it says “change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference”. Knowing I am powerless to change many things, but I empowered to change what I can brings me relief. This year is particularly taxing due to a political landscape that polarizes men against women and the masculine linear viewpoints up against a more circular feminine mode of operating. It is exhausting. How do we detach and love ourselves despite people projecting onto each other and us? Equanimity and getting out of our heads into the joy of breathing. We do it moment by moment, one step at a time, and one day at a time.
Healing is a spiral and as we move along issues resurface throughout our lives, but they get easier. Sometimes we are hit with big “growth opportunities” and those wintery seasons test our faith and help us stretch beyond our comfort zone into a place of more self-respect and a deeper sense of identity.
Remember the universe never gives you more than you can handle. We all come to the planet with one big issue to work on and to the best of our ability and every day we get to chip away at it. I love taking a nightly inventory and looking back at all the beautiful things I did and received in the day but also the scratchy areas that I would like to improve.
With all these tool’s self-loving inner talk comes in to bring it all home. As we give love to ourselves than we can share all that goodness with the world and as we reach out to those who are in pain than we can love ourselves that much more. It’s a wonderful paradox.
