In these times of unrest how do we stay centered in our identities when we experience a world that brings us back to our childhoods or other previous times we were hurt. One ancient wisdom teaches us to keep all excesses to a minimum. How true is that. If you are in active addiction, there is help. All you have to do is call.
Honestly, I have found these past couple months to be quite challenging. For the first time in years, I made the executive decision to unplug from television and abstain from all social media (which is nothing new for me). Even with these precautions you can still feel the turbulence in the air and the earth shifting at your feet. Scientists have recently come out with a study that the shape of the earth has in fact changed. All this movement is quite unnerving to say the least. The hits we experience daily may be physical, biochemical, emotional, or spiritual. Reaching out is essential. There are so many people who are on the spiritual path. We never have to suffer alone.
When the old tapes play a wonderful tool, is to immediately visualize something we cherish or our higher power and turn down the volume of the program. Doing something we love when we are triggered or “getting a treat” as my Southern friend often reminds me is key. Treats could be getting a massage, coffee with a friend, eating a delicious meal or a good workout. It’s so personal. There is one more piece to this puzzle to explore. What do I believe? Once we can name our beliefs than we can dig into their roots. When we get to the base and recall the first time this happened to us then we can create a new program based in love. For instance, if we believe we are never going to have what we want, we can track the program back and then put it in our higher power’s hands. Using inner vision, you can see the distorted message transmute into an object or an idea of love.
However centering in self-love works for you (walking in nature, swimming or sitting and breathing) we have the power to let the negative feelings go. I love driving for this reason. I can imagine streamers coming out of the sides of my car. It’s such a relief to release worries in this way. Also, drawing into the second chakra (2 inches below the belly button) can be an easy way to come to come “home”.
For addicts an old saying is “don’t use no matter what”. This saying is so profound because we are encouraged to stop the behavior through surrender. It’s a paradox. Practicing staying in the light brings us back to the present moment and back to love every time.
